Meeting Minutes February 7, 2008

Carolina Mountain Trumpet Guild

Minutes of inaugural meeting on February 7, 2008

10 Present:  David Champouillon, Casey, Coppenbarger, Woody Dotson, John Entzi, Emerson Head, Betty jackson, Bill Shank, Tanner Smith, Peter Voisin, and Doug Zimmerman

1.  The meeting was called to order shortly after 7:00 p.m. by Peter Voisin in an upstairs room in Trinity United Methodist Church on Haywood Rd. in West Asheville.  John Entzi read a letter of welcome from ITG President Bill Pfund. After the greeting and welcome, the ten trumpet players were separated into two groups.  The professional players stayed in the first room and read through a variety of trumpet ensembles provided by Peter and Bill Shank.  The students and less experienced players moved into a second room where Peter led a discussion on the fundamentals of playing.

2.  Sometime after 8:00 the two groups were put back together and a business meeting was held, chaired by Peter.  Peter provided a printout from the Guild web site which presented our Mission Statement, a list of suggested officers, a description of the rehearsal sessions, a suggested meeting agenda, meeting dates for the next four months, and a list of issues that are in the process of being resolved and their present status.

3.  After discussion of the name of our organization, there was a consensus for adding the word “Trumpet”, thus “Carolina Mountain Trumpet Guild”.

4.  The mission statement was discussed and edited, resulting in the following:

“Carolina Mountain Trumpet Guild is a regional organization affiliated with the International Trumpet Guild.  It was created in September 2007 to foster the development, understanding, and appreciation of the trumpet, its history, and its many styles and players.  Its inaugural meeting was held on February 7, 2008.”

5.  The list of office positions was altered as follows:

President                                 Membership Chairman

Vice President                         Activities Chairman

Secretary                                Librarian

Treasurer                                Meeting Host

6.  It was unanimously agreed (with one abstention!) that Peter Voisin should be the first President of this organization which he has spent so much effort and talent in creating.  Emerson Head volunteered to serve as interim Secretary, Bill Shank volunteered to be Librarian, and our Host is John Entzi, Director of Bands at UNCA.

7.  Except for this first meeting, the regular meeting dates will be the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church until further notice.

8.  Membership information forms were collected by Peter.  All members were asked to work on getting more players to join.  The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Emerson Head,

Acting Secretary
